Season Preview with WaterFire Columbus at the Riverfront Art Festival

Artists:

The Riverfront Art Festival features approximately 150 artists, representing 26 states. While it is national in scope, 24 of the festival’s artists are local to Central Ohio. The Riverfront Art Festival believes that it is important to showcase the incredible amount of homegrown talent in Columbus. The festival is juried for quality and balance of mediums, and all of the work for sale must be handmade by the artist, who must be present at the festival. A complete list of exhibiting artists along with small photos of their work is available at www.riverfrontartfestival.com For more information on any of the festival’s artists please email info@byhandevents.com

WaterFire:

The Riverfront Art Festival began partnering with WaterFire Columbus in 2008 when it moved to Genoa Park. This relationship has grown and flourished, and this year we are pleased to offer WaterFire burns on both the Friday and Saturday nights of the festival.

Opera Columbus:

Opera Columbus made its debut at the festival in 2009. This year they return with a program that is sure to impress – a season preview featuring works from upcoming 2010-2011 concerts.

"We are very excited to be a part of the Riverfront Arts Festival and WaterFire Columbus for the 2nd consecutive year. It is with great pleasure that we share a preview of our 2010-2011 season with the community through a concert of Mozart, Gilbert & Sullivan, and Kurt Weill, featuring favorite local singers." – Bill Boggs, Artistic Director Opera Columbus.

The Porch at the North Market
Market 2 Market

Two of Columbus' premiere independent, locally-owned specialty foods markets are partnering to celebrate the bounty that Ohio producers bestow upon our great state. The Hills Market and North Market share not only a philosophical connection: one that makes it a priority to provide and promote the best Ohio has to offer to consumers, but also a physical connection: the Olentangy River Greenway (or more commonly, the Olentangy Bike Trial). Join both markets on Saturday, October 2, as they connect to celebrate the end of a great summer season with “Market to Market”: a cross-city local foods-centric bike ride, for amateurs and aficionados alike.

Participants have the option of starting at either market to fuel up with breakfast before embarking on the 13 mile adventure to the market at the other end of the bike trail. Each participating rider will be issued a local foods passport at the beginning of their journey. Bikers can collect stamps along the way by visiting with local vendors and organizations set up along the path.

Olentagy River Trail
Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill: A Musical Voyage

Berlin to Broadway is a joyous, comic, and moving celebration of one of the 20th century's most innovative popular composers, Kurt Weill. This fully costumed and staged revue features songs from a dozen of his musicals, from The Threepenny Opera to the comedy, style, and swing of Lady in the Dark, to soaring melodies, lush with love and longing, from Lost in the Stars.

Four singing actors, led by a narrator, take the audience on a musical voyage from pre-World War II Germany to Broadway's golden age, through the music of this most extraordinary composer. The songs are presented in rough chronological order to aid in creating a biographical portrait of composer, Kurt Weill. The popular song, "Mack the Knife," headlines a fantastic selection of tunes that blur the boundary between the "serious" and "popular" music of the theatre.
