Director Crystal Manich is thrilled to create a new production of Madama Butterfly, her fifth for Opera Columbus, after the success of Madama Butterfly in 2013, and also La voix humaine/Pagliacci (2015), Lully’s Armide (2015) and Carmen (2017). She has been hailed by the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and other major publications for “lively” and “imaginative staging.” Her work spans across international borders including Pinchgut Opera in Australia, and Buenos Aires Lírica in Argentina. She is also the Artistic Director of Mill City Summer Opera in Minneapolis. U.S. credits include over 50 productions at Pittsburgh Opera, The Kennedy Center, Boston Lyric Opera, Wolf Trap Opera, Tulsa Opera, Arizona Opera, Opera Omaha, Opera Santa Barbara, American Opera Projects, Utah Opera, North Carolina Opera, New England Conservatory, Boston University, Opera Delaware, Simpson College, Opera Roanoke, and Lyric Opera Baltimore. Recent highlights: Rigoletto at Wolf Trap with the National Symphony; Hansel and Gretel at Pittsburgh Opera; Paris and Helen with Odyssey Opera; Norma in Utah. Manich is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University.
